The name Sheldon is used to honor the Bull Family who's ancestral home was in Warwickshire, England and was called Sheldon Hall. The family had a Plantation near the church. In the Bull family vault arms and ammunition was hidden during the Revolutionary War. Continental troops drilled the church grounds and during May of 1779 Old Sheldon Church was burned by General Augustine Prevost's British troops.
The name Sheldon Church wasn't fully estabilished until 1826 when the church was rebuilt as Sheldon Church of Prince William's Parish. For about 41 years the new Sheldon Church stood again until January 14, 1865 when Sherman's 15th corps under General John Logan burned Sheldon Church as part of Sherman's march to the sea.
This site is truly a beautiful yet haunting breath from the past. The cemetary is the final resting place for many promanat families and is well worth the time to visit if you are traveling the lowcountry near Yemassee and Beaufort, SC. Map to Old Sheldon Church Ruins.

J. Cotton was king and rice field plots could be found along the Ashley river connecting to the Plantations. One Plantation that stands out the most is Drayton Hall.
In 1670 Charles Towne was founded and the very first settlement was at Albermarle Point beside the Ashley River. It was during that time when Mr. Thomas Drayton sails to Charles Towne from Barbados in 1679. He then acquires property along the Ashley River and builds Magnolia Plantation. Then in 1680 Charles Towne moves to it's current location. In 1715 John Drayton is born at Magnolia Plantation, north of where he will later construct Drayton Hall.
While fleeing the British Army in the spring of 1779 John has a seizure and dies. Drayton Hall is now owned by his fourth wife, Rebecca Perry Drayton. That same year William H. Drayton dies. He was born born at Drayton Hall in 1742 and is noted in the role he played in leading the Carolina colony and soon the nation to independence. Drayton Hall is sold in 1783 by Rebecca Drayton to her stepson Charles who begins to live in the plantation in January 1784. Much of the original furniture was later sold in an estate auction when Rebecca dies in 1840.
Drayton Hall is unique because it survived both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. However after by the end of the Civil War the Drayton 's did not use the Plantation as their main residence. A Chinese Chippendale style house built along 25 East Battery in downtown Charleston is where the Drayton's preferred to live.
In 1969 Miss Charlotta who was a sixth generation Drayton, dies. Although she leaves the Plantation to her two nephews, it was her wish that "the property be preserved for further generations.
This is a must see if you are going to Charleston, SC. This is a good thing. Apple is a product that is almost always related with style and design of the product - just say the MacBook Air. However, I have been using Apple since I was 14 years old and have tried Windows XP and Vista but I can't leave my Macs.
Macs are by far the best and the best of both PC and Macs if you use Virtual PC. Having two platforms tow chose from in a design field is only a bonus!

The less software I have to Buy the better. One great thing regarding Apple is that we are forever guessing with what the next big product might be. I might add that many people who are running Windows on a network in the office, may not realize it but they are using a Mac based server! I always find this to be funny - but so true. Check out the product that I love the most at Apple.

JSH

J. Although I have not read the book, several of my friends did say that they were disappointed with all the main themes that were left out and new scenes that were added, which didn't do anything for the movie but make it longer. We are all wondering how book seven and possible 7.5, will hold ground with one main love interest in the book that was left out.
First the special effects were done very well. By far the best FX of all the Potter films thus far. In the opening scene there was a ton of FX with the destruction of parts of London that was directed at Diagon Alley. There was over-kill with some of Ron's love interest and lack there of for Hermine. Not to give too much away regarding the film, because it's very much a must-see for Potter fans; however the ultimate and most anticipated part of the film was the death of Professor Dumbledore. I was expecting to be in tears when that event happened, but it was very brief, respect was given by the students and other professors at Hogwarts.
On a rating scale, I have to give this movie 3 stars over-all and 5 stars for special effects, which were done very well.
I am looking forward to movie or movies 7 - 8. Like all the previous Harry Potter films; I will be adding it to my DVD library (not that I plan to watch it as much as previous ones). Another nice element of the Potter films is the fact that we are able to see three wonderful young stars grow up before our eyes. Who knows if they will continue in film or fall off the map; one thing is certain for the trio - they are very wealthy and really don't need to work ever again!
Also, hats off to J. K. Rowling for all she has accomplished. For a single mom who was on welfare to be the second wealthiest woman in show biz (and the only author) she ranks number two. The only woman worth more is none other than Oprah Winfrey and her media empire.
Until movie seven....Hutt.

J. I have degrees and education out the ears and my only main debt is Student Loans to the government and I can't find a job, must less a good job, for anything I do!
I tried "Food Stamps" and was denied; then I try to get "Health Insurance" and I am a "future risk" or a "high Risk" and then there are the "preexisting conditions" so mainly I am screwed as far as health insurance goes!
I did however watch "Sicko", the Micheal Moore file dealing with health care - and I have friends in Europe - their health care system is not as rosie as it seems in the painting that Moore gives us on screen, but something to help is better than NOTHING even if it is a brainstorm of possible ideas!
Yes we or our parent and their parents before, got us in this mess by spending more than we have. HINT: What happened to lay-away people? The credit card!! Keeping the all America Dream alive!! But has this "Dream" become our Berlin Wall. Keep the rich wealthy and the poor without...or is there something we can do about it without tearing apart our infrastructure.
Okay, I was told by a person at the SC Dept. of Rev. to "Get a Job!" Well, Mr. Dept. of Rev. Man, I have more high price degrees than most of our US citizens, and I am either over qualified or missing that one little skill that they didn't offer at the Universities I attended. Now what? Part-time jobs? When I ask if someone is hiring the response is "yes we are" or "we will be soon". I ask how many hours - the response is 15-20 hours at $7.25 or $8.00 an hour. I'm sorry, but I can't live on pocket change. And I have been crawling so long now that I wonder if I will ever reach the status to walk!
Our system is broke. I am not sure how to repair it; but I can say that the Washington DC Senators and Rep's (Not to mention kicking a dead horse a few more times - SC Governor Mark Sanford) who refused to take the stimulus package until he was forced to take it, was later found to be working hard in Argentina, getting his South American rocks off. One thing is certain: voters know how to pick the prettiest apples - we forget to look for all the worm holes! 'Cause they are all rotten to the core for the most part.
I'm off to the malls in the triangle area of NC to find some part-time job or jobs. I will keep you posted on my results; or if you are reading this and want to help a well educated Artist out, send me a message or e-mail. Can't hurt...
J.S.H.

J. I think my parents are in the worst part of the recession right now. Everyone that works for my father are going to find themselves unemployed on Monday. Things as far as jobs seems to be like a different world here in the triangle area, which is a good thing for me. I have applied a great deal this past week and will follow up with them this weekend and the first of this week.
On a different note we are going to do dinner tomorrow with all the dental residents at UNC-Chapel Hill then on Sunday we are going to go to lunch and finally see Harry Potter and the half blood Prince. This is the longest time period that I have waited to see a Potter film since they started. And it will be kinda sad when they are finished with all the books and movies. Yet from what I've been told, Half blood Prince is to be one of the better movies in the series so far, mainly with the special effects getting better.
I am also waiting on the new for "The Hobbit" to come out soon. that has been tossed around a great deal but I have yet to hear anything about it - or at least a time when it will be released. If anyone out there know any information on this please sent me a post. I would greatly appreciate it.
I am also tyring a new page in my art, which will be posted soon. and I'm not sure what to call the at that I am doing - I guess geometric shapes and lines and open space in muted and bright colors. I will post a photo of one on here so you can better understand what I am trying to do. It's so new to even me that I just did it with out thinking...and it happened, to my surprise and turned out very well. Most of these pieces will be for sale on my up-coming website.
Going to finish unpacking and then hitting the bed for the night. Part of it is to prove that "I can do it" for myself and to prove to the disbeliever, that yes in fact I CAN DO IT. Challenge is really an opportunity for me. It gives me the chance to stand out in the vast ocean of ordinary people; and, for once I feel like I'm 17 again. That magical age where all doors seem open to any dream you might have. The sky is the limit. And we really feel that we will live forever and can do anything that we really set forward to do in life.
Although I grew up in rural South Carolina, I was always surrounded by people who loved me for me - no questions asked. Now I'm 30something and life seems to be creeping up on me. I realize now that I really have to make some choices in my life where my significant other and I will have the American dream during a time that for most people, that dream seems lost in times gone by.
That brings me back to the main point I am making. I still have that childhood dream. That fire is alive and well. And I will never give in or up until I have achieved a point in life where I can call myself successful. It is in my blood - I guess - I am a lot like my grandfather Hutto. "If you don't give it a try, one thing is for sure, that dream will always be just that, a dream!"

J.
